Wise Wait

“Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” Hebrews 4:11-13 KJV

Has anyone ever expressed the dilemma of waiting on the scriptural injunction “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry (Habakkuk 2:3)”? Nothing more than the personal experience of waiting on the fulfillment of a 24-year vision can best illustrate the dilemma in understanding the meaning of “though it tarry” and “it will not tarry” in a single verse of the scriptures. “Wait for it” implies that there is the tendency of both a foolish wait and a wise wait. When we wait on our own intelligence, strength and weakness, and words of people who have assumed the skills in the interpretation of God’s words, vision, and revelation for our lives, we are bound to get into the “one chance” scenario against the fulfillment of the promises of God. But those who truly wait on the words of the Lord do readily understand the consistency of “though it tarry” and “it will not tarry” in a single verse of the scriptures. Waiting on the words of the Lord has a quick and sharp impact on the order of chances and occurrences in a believer’s life on a daily basis…and the effect is towards the eventual fulfillment of the promises in the long run. Therefore, a wise wait represents a consistent use of a daily quiet time in the presence of the Lord; and the good Lord does guide the thoughts and intents of the hearts of those who wisely wait on Him through prayer and meditation in His words.
