Unfortunately, the search for satisfaction in life has always proffered material wealth, multiplicity of women, and manifestation of wisdom; but the end story has been nothing different from dryness and thirst. The reality on ground is that the provision of material things and the basic things of life can be the desirable sanctuary for the body, they cannot replace the innate portion for God in the soul of man.  God is the soul’s sanctuary and the only place for rest and satisfaction from dryness and thirst.   “When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭63‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ The difference between helping hands and hurting hands is not necessarily the help or hurt. It is the distinction between God and the adversaries. Beyond the physical hurt inflicted by the adversaries, the emotional hurts can be immensely overwhelming that the afflicted souls can hardly remember the promises of God. For example, even when Hannah was surrounded by a show of affection from her husband, the hurt imposed by her adversary reduced all the shows of love to nothing, until she found the source of true helping hands. Little wonder, the eventual help from God was named Samuel, saying ‘Because I asked for him from the Lord ’ (1 Samuel 1:20).   “When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭63:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ There is something so special about the night that distinguishes it from the buzziness of the day. It is specifically reserved for rest and cessation of the day’s activities. And normally, only serious matters of the day keep people awake at nights. Therefore, when it was a sweet fellowship with God that kept the psalmist awake at night, it underscored the extent of his acquaintance with the Lord. Obviously, the soul that engages in fellowship with God at nights can hardly be distracted from the right paths in the day. And those who meditate on God in their night watches often receive sufficient inspiration for their day-to-day perspiration. The nights are not just nice when our sleep is deep; but also when our reflections are inspired by God and His promises.

Unfortunately, these routines often do not always encourage productive meditation. Concentration on well-planned out activities for the day and relaxation with entertainment in the night does feels great in the eyes of a self-made man. Although the challenges of life are generally unacceptable, they provide a better perspective of authentic night watches. And it is difficult to challenge the fact that problems often draw the heart closer to God than prosperity. Therefore, even when the day’s activities are lining up as good, wise hearts will often prefer the option of inviting godly meditation in night watches than indulging in ungodly entertainment as night splash .

Praises within the company of wealth and wellness are comely for all who believe in the existence of God. But until praises remain consistent without the company of wealth and wellness, it would be difficult to ascertain the focus of worship, either God and His righteousness or the promised wealth and wellness. Unlike David, most people would readily deny the existence of God, if wealth and wellness is replaced with wilderness experiences. The fact remains that any babe could praise when milk is readily in the mouth; but only those who are grown up in their intimate relationship with God would appreciate the preciousness of praise without milk.‎ Therefore, the soul of anyone whose flesh thirsts more for earthly refreshments than heavenly riches cannot offer precious praise.
