Spiritual Slumbering
“And He said, “Go, and tell this people: ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’” Isaiah 6:9 NKJV http://bible.com/114/isa.6.9.nkjv Dullness of hearing and dimness of sight does not necessarily indicate a lack of interest in spiritual things; they are most likely a reflection of divided interest towards material things. Having awakened from spiritual slumbering, prophet Isaiah himself was prepared to provide inspiring message of salvation and deliverance to the people from sin’s slavery. Unfortunately, interest in material prosperity with devotion to religious activities inhibit spiritual awakening. God expressed his concern to Isaiah, saying “Go, and tell this people”. “This people”, instead of “my people”, suggests the people are obviously deceived by their religious heritage and historical affiliation to the promises of God.
