  “ Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word. It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes .” Psalms 119 : 67 , 71 NKJV In the words of the psalmist and almost all instruments of great usefulness in the hands of the Lord, ‘ afflicted’ in “ Before I was afflicted I went astray“ is synonymous to ‘ assisted’ . While God is never the author of the righteous’ affliction and adversity, the instrument is always relevant in divine parlance to align every believer’s perception and the pursuit of divine purpose. The earth and its multiple resources are fully loaded with great distractions to the extent that no one is capable of walking straight without the assistance of an instrument of affliction. It was Smith Wigglesworth who said ‘Great faith is a product of great fights. Great testimonies are the outcome of great tests. Great triumphs can only come out of great trials .’ Because no one will freely choose great fights, great tests, and great trials, God often does the serving of these goods without asking. And through these experiences, believers like the psalmist are able to look back and say “ It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes“ .
