Accursed Possession
"And you, by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it." (Joshua 6:18 NKJV) The pursuit of greatness often come with the temptation to build empire, which unfortunately become an Emperor that demands the worship of its builder. The status of Jericho and all its fullness had changed from a city to a shrine, when its wall became the stronghold against the existence of God and His plans. When possessions that are made to provide service to man turned to invariably demand or possess worship from the same man, they are accursed; and would drown anyone who cannot abstain from its attractions. Whatever is desired for purposes other than the worship of God probably represents submission to the worship of the accursed possession.
