Likewise, true hope in the Lord is not dependent on the handouts from the throne of grace; it is based on absolute faith in His prominence and providence, even while His promises hang in the balance. The poor are hopeful in the prosperity of their material status; and the wrongfully oppressed or imprisoned person will embrace freedom. Unfortunately, this outcome-based hope is not usually helpful. If not even hurtful, helpless hope keeps its believers under the caprices of human manipulation and false security. While deeply meditating on the referenced helpful hope by the psalmist, it is instructive to get inspired by the hallowed hope projected in Ezra’s prayer to God for the restoration of Israel to the will of God. Unfortunately, the trade-off for physical freedom is often far more precious, including loss of spiritual freedom, emotional irritation, etc. Since every hope in princes is limited to the extent of their political relevance, it is mostly unsustainable if not entirely unreliable. Honest help comes from the maker of heaven and earth, who do not need human efforts to garner support towards possession of any throne, since all thrones are created by Him.
