Therefore, when the Lord said to Jeremiah, “Do not say, ‘I am a youth’”, He had no problem with the use of the base word “youth”. However, the problem has everything to do with the basis of claiming the “youth” status. If Jeremiah had said, “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am an aged”, God’s response would probably be “Do not say, ‘I am an aged’”. Invariably, believers’ services to God should not be on the basis of status. And as ministers advance with years of experience, confidence in the ability to deliver the right word at different moments and seasons appears to replace the expected confidence in the guidance of the Spirit. Being a novice at the onset of his call into the ministry, Jeremiah gave excuse why he could not be the right minister to deliver the Lord's message.
