When Joshua and Caleb responded to this self-centred and rebellious perspective of their colleagues in the Old Testament with “ If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey ( Numbers 14 : 8 )”, it was aimed at highlighting the sacred uniqueness of a delightful deliverance. God’s deliverance is not primarily designed to serve the desperation of His beloved for quick freedom; but rather to satisfy the demonstration of the glory of God. They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the Lord was my support.” Psalms 18 : 17 - 18 NKJV While reflecting on the root of deliverance from the book Obadiah that “ But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions (Obadiah 1 : 17 )”, it is interesting to observe the preeminence of holiness before true deliverance, and the possession of every believer’s possessions. People do invest strategically in building strong support systems and political networks, mainly in preparation for battles against the enemy or opposition. Unfortunately, no matter how strong the support system, human support systems can only stand for a short while. Students of history can attest to almost a similar rhythm with the rise and fall of kingdoms, thrones, and earthly political structures. But in all the ages past and present, the only support system that has withstood the test of time is the support system that is built on the Lord.   “The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.” Psalms‬ ‭18‬:‭20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Whenever someone says ‘You shall eat the fruits of your labour’ , some people may be cautious to affirm the declaration as a statement of prayer. Whereas, personal affirmation is really not necessary. As confirmed by the psalmist and many people’s true life stories, God does reward everyone in life according to the righteousness and the cleanliness of his hands. However, David received tremendous negative rewards for his uprightness from many trusted people before the divine recompense arrived. And this is always the challenge that draws many people away from waiting upon the Lord; while opting for the unrighteous recompense from the world, through shady deals, compromises, cheating, and all forms of wickedness for perceived gains.
