Spirit Strength
“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.” 1 Samuel 30:6, 8 KJV
Without the benefit of the spirit strength, everyone can relate to the complete emotional collapse of strategies based on sight strength. Prior to the discovery of the defeat and destruction at Ziklag, David had been disappointed by the failed trust by the armies of the Philistines. One of the resources of sight strength in life is the building of alliances, relationships, and social diplomacy; and a crack in this sight strength in the assessment of David must be a serious concern to his continuous dependence on the alliance with Achish. Therefore, it is understandable why David’s assessment of the compound effect of sight strength at their return to Ziklag led to the people’s deep distress and depression “Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep (1 Samuel 30:4)”. Thankfully, at the extreme end of the sight strength for David came the resurrection of the spirit strength…”but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God”. The spirit strength is discovered on bended knees and scriptural inspiration by the promises of God; and not at all on the destructive reliance on the network of human intelligence. Likewise, believers who truly have God are open to His promises of recovery from the deepest of deplorable distress and depression in life. When believers are inspired to lift up holy hands unto heaven, the windows of heaven do open their spirit strength to release strategies for recovery of all lost opportunities and possession of all delayed promises.
