Odious Obedience

 



“Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them. And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.” 2 Chronicles 24:17-18 KJV


The latter influence of the princes of Judah on king Joash, despite the parental and priestly investment of Jehoiada the chief priest, shows the danger of odious obedience in life and ministry. And as well scripted elsewhere in the New Testament, evil communication corrupts good manners. “Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king“ implies that there is always a subtle desire for worship and submission in the heart of every man. Unfortunately, when we cheaply buy the obedience of men, we pay heavily by falling into their chain of manipulations. Likewise, men in places of authority should be wary of sycophants and loyalists who wear the badge of odious obedience with pride. The moment they are able to sell their wares, they become uncontrollable cabals in the system with the ultimate control and power. The negative influence of odious obedience on Joash was so bad that he was manipulated to destroy the sons of his former mentor and chief priest Johoiada, just for the offense of providing good guidance. Whereas, every oasis’s obedience is rooted in an uncompromising allegiance to the commandments of the Lord; any reliable associate will not push his control and influence above this scriptural standard.

Omni- Obedience

  “ For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled .” II Corinthians 10 : 4 - 6 NKJV There is no better reference to the scriptural punishment of all disobedience when our obedience is fulfilled than omni- obedience.
