Cloud Camping
“Whether it was two days, a month, or a year that the cloud remained above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would remain encamped and not journey; but when it was taken up, they would journey. At the command of the Lord they remained encamped, and at the command of the Lord they journeyed; they kept the charge of the Lord, at the command of the Lord by the hand of Moses.”Numbers 9:22-23 NKJV
If the relevance of the cloud to the children of Israel had been limited to protection and covering from the heat of the sun, the construction of a special canopy would have been initiated. Whereas, cloud camping is intentionally coupled with the commandment of the Lord for double assurance and the presentation of the presence of the Lord. Everyone knows how easy it is for the flesh to settle down at the treatment of comfort and high standard of living. Without the cloud camping initiative, it would have been difficult for Moses to get the children of Israel moving again at every command to take off from their settled rest. And without God’s commands, it is easy for anyone to misinterpret the moving of the cloud or comfort zone in his life. Even today, when the cloud of our comfort zone is taken up by circumstances beyond our control, it may be a special call to wait upon the Lord for a clear command towards the new journey ahead.
