Fruitful Faithfulness

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.” Galatians 3:7-9 KJV

When the scriptures declared  “Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6)”, God established parenting on the principle of fruitful faithfulness. Unlike today’s definition of faithfulness that is anchored on personal preferences, likeness or dislike of either the parents or the child, scriptural faithfulness is established on divine counsel and His purpose for our existence. Parents are expected to constantly seek the face of God to understand on their child’s behalf “the way he should go”, rather than adapting to “the way he wants to go”. Today, believers are quick to claim the blessing of Abraham because of God’s approval of his fruitful faithfulness in bringing up his children. Therefore, his faithfulness became a legacy of blessings to the generations far beyond his earthly existence. Unfortunately, fruitless faithfulness does readily breathe on the satisfaction of our selfish cravings for fun, frivolity, and fame at the expense of faithfulness to the revealed counsels of God. Whereas, Abraham could go to the extent of wanting to sacrifice Isaac on the altar of Moriah or his fruitful faithfulness. Little wonder God responded by saying “…for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me (Genesis 22:12)”; and He established the legacy of fruitful faithfulness with “In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham”. And everyone who delights in navigating faithfulness on his commitment to his earthly relationships, strictly on the basis of divine counsels and scriptural revelations rather than personal preferences, is bound to lay a legacy of fruitful faithfulness to generations of races after his life's existence.
