Shepherdless Sheep

“Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields came to Gedaliah at Mizpah, and said to him, “Do you certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to murder you?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭40:13-14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ http://bible.com/114/jer.40.13-14.nkjv
Building trust in leadership is a daunting task, especially when human intelligence is preferred as the limit of exploration. A man left to rule life’s affairs by himself is a helpless head; but anyone who ignore divine assistance in the field of life is described as a fool. Even when Nebuzaradan the captain of the Chaldeans guard directed the housing of prophet Jeremiah with Governor Gedaliah, the helpless head ignored the strategic provision of assistance for spiritual discernment and divine guidance in leadership. He resulted into the game of playing innocence with the heart of man. Unfortunately, the scriptures say the heart of man is desperately wicked; and only God can openly reveal the secret things of the heart, including that of the owner. Gedaliah ruined the reign as helpless head through a misguided confidence in his own discretion over divine guidance. Rather than living a miserable life of suspicion, it is safer to trust in the Lord and refrain from trusting in our own understanding of human loyalty.
