Delightful Deliverance

He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because he delighted in me.Psalm 18:19 KJV

There is no doubt that the Lord has unquenchable delight in the deliverance of His beloved, but our desire for quick freedom does often draw a self-centred perspective out of this delight. When Joshua and Caleb responded to this self-centred and rebellious perspective of their colleagues in the Old Testament with “If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey (Numbers 14:8)”, it was aimed at highlighting the sacred uniqueness of a delightful deliverance. God’s deliverance is not primarily designed to serve the desperation of His beloved for quick freedom; but rather to satisfy the demonstration of the glory of God. Whenever the glory of God is at stake, it becomes rude and rebellious for the people of God to underestimate the potency of God’s delightful deliverance. Therefore, after the psalmist’s experience of God’s delightful deliverance from his wilderness created by king Saul and all the deployed agents of destruction, David couldn’t hide the acknowledgment of godly perspectives on deserving dedication to worship, discernment and discretion in leadership, and discipline or diligence for fruitful fellowship as a large place. Quick freedom has always advanced the selling of birthrights into a large place to those who played the wrong game. Whereas, God’s delightful deliverance is designed for every believer’s admission into a large place; but he must be undistracted from his confidence in God’s promises and concern for divine glory.
