Delightful Deal

How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? How long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? But I have trusted in thy mercy; My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.Psalm 13:1-2, 5-6 KJV

The uniqueness of Psalms 13 is the comparison of a defiling thought with a delightful deal in real life. The heart is a chessboard where either a delightful deal or a defiling thought is played. That’s why Christ told the disciples elsewhere “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man (Matthew 15:18)”. Therefore, those who have truly struck a deal with the Lord Jesus Christ by grace unto salvation do have a privilege to choose delight in the laws of the Lord and meditate only on His promises. It doesn’t matter how long the battle rages, the health challenge lingers, the financial crisis stretches, and relationships with others suffer, every believer’s back is covered as long as his delight is in the Lord’s show of mercy. Fortunately, the benefits of a delightful deal extend beyond its primary beneficiaries to those who care to stretch their hands to receive the Lord’s show of mercy. For example, as Joseph delighted in the Lord’s show of mercy throughout his 13 years of doubt, rejection and incarceration occasioned by his hateful brothers, they all benefited at the end of the deal. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His words and His show of mercy alone, there will always be no place for defilement from the ‘How long, O LORD?’ thought in our hearts.
