Honest House

Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the descendants of the captivity were building the temple of the Lord God of Israel, they came to Zerubbabel and the heads of the fathers’ houses, and said to them, “Let us build with you, for we seek your God as you do; and we have sacrificed to Him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us here.” But Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the heads of the fathers’ houses of Israel said to them, “You may do nothing with us to build a house for our God; but we alone will build to the Lord God of Israel, as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.”” Ezra 4:1-3 NKJV

Everyone knows that any house building project requires lots of help and human labourers, and a reasonable building contractor will readily accept and use all offers of labour dispassionately. Zerubbabel stood out as an exception to the concept of ‘use all labour-offer’ building contractors. He refused the offers from ‘the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin’ turned helpers…because the house is not just a piece of structure. It is a sacrifice to the Holy God, who is the Creator of heaven and earth. Actually, a purposeful living by every believer in God is an honest house and a sacrifice to the living God, who is never ever a beggar and He demands “a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service (Romans 12:1)”. And like Zerubbabel, anyone that will ever accept the call to build an honest house, not for himself but for the Lord, must be discreet with every chance of carnal engagement on the same standard “You may do nothing with us to build a house for our God; but we alone will build to the Lord God of Israel, as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us”. Thankfully, any honest house building project built for the Holy God can never lack heavenly resources, and no earthly conspiracy can either stop or bring the project down.
