God’s Gift

Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.II Timothy 1:6-7 NKJV

While appreciating and celebrating the excellent achievements of men are commendable, adoring the gift of man often leads to the suppression of the gift of God. It takes an absolute faith in God for anyone to stir up the gift of God through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, especially in an environment surrounded by carnal achievers, frontline performers, etc. For example, Timothy would have been intimidated by the effrontery and opposition of Apostle Paul’s oppressors and persecutors to the extent he could no longer preach the gospel with conviction. When believers’ concerns about the state of affairs at home, workplaces and the society are expressed with ‘what else can we do?’, it often shows that solace in the gift of men is overriding the soundness of the gift of God. Whereas, every redeemed child of God carries the gift of God for a lovely exercise of discernment, deliverance and demonstration. When fear cripples any believer’s sound understanding of the gift of God and its supremacy over the gift of men, the heart of man cannot see the signs and wonders that follow his faith in God.
