Healthy Heart

”And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”“ ‭‭Mark‬ ‭12‬:‭30‬-‭31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Just as the freedom of the physical heart is exercised through the eating of a heart-healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, managing the blood pressure, controlling the total cholesterol, and keeping the blood sugar healthy, the spiritual heart is healthy when free of hatred, envy, and wickedness. Simply put, love is the vital ingredient of a healthy heart. To love the Lord with all the heart is to give like the Lord gave. A healthy heart, like God’s agape love, is not driven by any acknowledgment of the need of the giver. Otherwise, the heart is not healthy. Funnily but fundamentally, when one of the scribes that asked Jesus Christ the question responded with perfect understanding of the subject matter, Jesus said “You are not far from the kingdom of God”. This implies that keeping a healthy heart is not in knowing or understanding the subject of love; it is in the practicing of love and compassion in our daily life and engagements. A healthy heart is known in all its career, relationship, social, and work engagement choices; these choices must always reflect the purpose of God to stay healthy.
