Long Life

Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.” Luke 20:37-38 KJV

Besides Christ’s reference to Moses in support of His teaching on resurrection, Moses once prayed for wisdom to appreciate long life in God’s perspective. Unfortunately, the carnal perspective of long life is limited to the celebration of birthdays, good health, material prosperity, and professional achievements. Whereas, even when Moses had lived a celebrated life of good leadership before the children of Israel, delivered a befitting celebration of life for himself with blessings on the congregation, and was buried by God Himself in a valley on the mountain of Nebo in the land of Moab, the scriptures still testified that “And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated (Deuteronomy 34:7)”, unveiling a life totally lived for God. Little wonder why Moses reappeared in fellowship with Christ and Elijah during the transfiguration of Jesus Christ. “For he is not a God of the dead” implies that only believers in Christ get long life, for the physical death on earth is just a transitional event in the span of their long life. Therefore, believers in Christ celebrate daily the privilege of living forever by exhibiting the evidence of transformation by the grace of God; and not by the abuse of grace with any form of unrighteousness.
