Wise Works
“Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” John 9:3-4 KJV
Purposeful living is strictly marked by purposeful engagements. And no matter the circumstances of life or the challenges it brings, the story of purposeful living remains intact. Unfortunately, it is always easier for minds that lack purpose to get engaged in wasted works of blame game. Like the disciples of Jesus wondered if the parents of the man born blind were the chief executive officers of the man’s engagement in a wasted factory, people today send their resumes for employment in wrong places when they failed to recognize their purpose for existence. But by the time the works of God became manifested in the man that was born blind, he suddenly became the teacher of the scribes and the Pharisees: “Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth (John 9:31)”. Therefore, engagement into wise works has nothing to do with abundance of resources, family inheritance and provision of amenities. Oftentimes, life’s exposures to challenges, physical or financial disabilities and difficulties make it easier for the heart to connect with God, who is the authentic chief executive officer of the unmistaken purpose for existence. Wise works are only possible with the heart’s absolute surrender to God’s will and its intentional pursuit of His assignments in all work settings.
