Christless Condemnation
“When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” John 8:10-11 KJV
The story of God’s mercy as related to the woman caught in adultery by the Pharisees speaks volume on the subject of condemnation. She escaped condemnation simply because Christ was with her, and not necessarily because she advanced the confession of her sin. As soon as her conviction appreciated the presence of Christ, she immediately experienced the mercy of God. “And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” Unfortunately, many convicted sinners today struggled with Christless condemnation because of their pride and unwillingness to appreciate the presence of Christ. For example, when Samson painfully realized that God had left him, he failed to pray for the restoration of God’s presence. Rather, he prayed for revenge against his supposed enemies, saying “Let me die with the Philistines” or “I am good with Christless condemnation, as long as my enemies accompany me”. Condemnation is always unnecessary when Christ is in the midst. Since Jesus would always want all sinners (including our oppressors, abusers, betrayals, persecutors, etc) to go and sin no more, we can also escape Christless condemnation simply by keeping his company with sinners.
