Private Privileges
“For Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.” John 5:20 KJV
Public performances in our homes, workplaces, and the society are often driven by approval syndrome, rather than the cultivation of genuine love relationships. When we compete for attention, approval, and appropriation by fellow men, it does make sense for people to fall for lip services, hypocrisy, and double dealings. Therefore, when the Pharisees opted for public performances to attract the attention and applause of the people, Jesus Christ promoted quiet time with the Father as the secret of His fame. Unfortunately, many people still believe that what they show to people to prove their capabilities and secure their acknowledgment are the determinants of breakthrough and excellence in life. Whereas, real excellence and breakthrough are powered by what God shows to His beloved in the closets. For example, Gideon was initially distracted by the public wickedness and open manifestations of the Midianites, turning his private closets into the prison walls of might and potentials. But things change later with the revelation of the private privileges in those private closets: “And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? (Judges 6:14)”. Obviously, the revelation of might of the Almighty in every believer is one of the private privileges of his intimacy with God; public performances for the attention and approval of the significant others in life do fade and fail miserably in the end.
