Gracious Gateway
“Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: And the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” Proverbs 9:9-10 KJV
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all thy getting get understanding (Proverbs 4:7)” suggests the prospect of all kinds of getting in the world outside the purview of the principal thing. Ironically, all kinds of getting that produce material affluence, artificial intelligence, financial prosperity, and physical strength are readily twisted as wisdom. Whereas, this worldly wisdom in God’s economy is simply considered as foolishness. If the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and not even wisdom yet, it is not surprising why the fear of the lords and principalities of worldly wisdom is foolishness. The fear of the LORD provides access to the gracious gateway towards the accumulation and application of godly wisdom. It implies that wisdom is the application of the revealed counsel of God in every believer’s relationship with people, material resources, and all opportunities in life. And since whatever is thrown into the life and affairs of anyone in the gracious gateway can be readily processed to make him wiser in the scheme of God’s purpose for existence, it is understandable why godly wisdom is a principal thing in this life.
