Delightful Drive
“and there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.” Mark 1:11-12 KJV
Life’s resume and memoirs are often described by events, activities and engagements, leaving out the motivation behind these actions. As long as these actions find us in desirable places of affluence, authorities, and attractions, almost nobody cares. Unfortunately, desirable drives in human considerations are usually tangential to the delightful drive in the sight of God. For example, no human consideration will opt for a drive into the wilderness; but it was the delight of the Spirit to lead Jesus Christ into the wilderness to initiate a ministry filled with absolute submission to the Will of God. Likewise, many people or scriptural references who led a pleasing ministry have demonstrated that a delightful drive is almost synonymous to initiation by wilderness experience. Therefore, it is important to underscore the benefits of wilderness experience, including (1) wisdom by the words of the Lord, rather than wiles by wicked ways; (2) inspiration by the intimacy with the Lord, compared to the use of intelligence without integrity; (3) living by the love of God, instead of the lust of the flesh; (4) decision by discernment, and not mere diligence; (5) exposition by the spirit of God, rather than explanation through the senses of man; (6) righteousness of the kingdom of God, instead of riches of the kingdom of this world; (7) nature of God; (8) excellency of the spirit of God; (9) self-denial; and (10) sound mind. After all, those who are driven by the spirit of the Lord into the wilderness are graciously and gloriously excelling, compared to those who are dragged by self and Satan into wealth with deception and damnation.
