Ageless Altar
“And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth-el, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: and let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.” Genesis 35:1-3 KJV
Since the family altar provides a sacred and united meeting of family members with God, it is usually the first target of attack in the enemies’ strategy for family invasion. Like the people usually say, a family that prays together stays together. And while the family altar in this age can either be physical or virtual, Jacob in the Old Testament age was asked to go back to Bethel for a refreshing recollection of God’s faithfulness and Jacob’s consecration. It is important to underscore that aging had resulted in several changes in the life and career of Jacob since his last appearance at Bethel. Notwithstanding, God’s faithfulness and Jacob’s consecration on the altar were ageless. Likewise, everyone’s purpose for existence and living is discovered and dedicated upon an ageless altar where God and man meet. But unfortunately, with growth in family sizes, business ideas, residency interests, etc, Jacob’s commitment to his consecration must have been shifted. “And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth-el, and dwell there….Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: and let us arise, and go up to Beth-el”. For our generation to truly serve the Lord as He expects from us, someone must take the lead to mobilize the family to arise, build the broken altar, and bring down the fire of revival upon the ageless altar.
