Virulent Vibes
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” I John 2:15-17 NKJV
“Do not love the world or the things in the world” is not a reference to the appreciation of the beauty of God’s creation. Those who embark on tourism to view the wonders of nature can readily undertake the mission with the heart of worship, prayer and outreaches. Whereas, the world is full of virulent vibes including the paying of attention to the lust of the flesh, especially in direct disobedience to the revealed instructions of the Lord. For example, those who steal, tell lies, and engage in different forms of vices against their fellow men and the system in the name of satisfying the basic needs of their flesh do not love the Father, even if they are resident fathers in the Father’s house. The virulent vibes in the lust of the eyes include all appeals to sexual seduction, covetousness, and worldly attractions in outright violation of the believer’s call to purity and righteousness. Nuns and monks can appear to escape these virulent vibes including playing saints until they are accidentally exposed to the real world. Likewise, virulent vibes in the pride of life feed on worldly competition for position, fame, and properties. However, when a believer is truly saved by grace, the victorious vibe in him makes the pursuit of the will of the Saviour through relationships with all the elements of the world the priority of his zeal.
