Hallowed Holiness
“The floods have lifted up, O Lord, The floods have lifted up their voice; The floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier Than the noise of many waters, Than the mighty waves of the sea. Your testimonies are very sure; Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever.” Psalms 93:3-5 NKJV
“Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever” agrees with the French philosopher’s (Blaise Pascal) account on the three orders of greatness, i.e., physical greatness, mental greatness, and holiness, that the third order is the highest. While the first order on physical greatness prides itself on riches, beauty and strength, the second order on mental greatness prides itself on intelligence, science, and art. These prides are the cause of the psalmist’s reference “The floods have lifted up, O Lord, The floods have lifted up their voice; The floods lift up their waves“. Actually, the essence of life is everyone’s reference and response to these prides or floods at home, workplaces and the society. Unfortunately, when we hallow the floods and prides above the holiness of heart, we basically get swept away our convictions by the mighty waves of the sea. For example, king Solomon had overwhelming access and control over the first and second order of greatness, but missed out at the end on greatness in the order of holiness. Whereas, no matter the tides of the floods from the order of physical greatness and mental greatness, holiness keeps the heart in righteous relationships with the Lord on high who is mightier Than the noise of many water.
