Solemn Submission
“So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.”” Luke 18:29-30 NKJV
A subtle submission to materialism and the possession of wealth or properties have always promised complete satisfaction. But everyone, especially those who have been privileged to experience the transition from a developing economy to a developed economy, knows that a subtle submission to materialism is advanced slavery with its attendant risk of depression and complete dissatisfaction. And in response to Jesus’ call for solemn submission to God as a recipe against the condemnation of subtle submission to materialism, the audience asked “Who then can be saved?”. Just like Peter was awakened to the danger of subtle submission to almost everything that calls for attention in life, the priority and profitability of solemn submission was emphasized by Jesus. We are all created by God to solemnly submit to Him, especially when many surrounding affections in life’s relationships pose a threat to our absolute submission to the Will of God. Total peace and complete satisfaction in life come alive only at the altar of every believer’s solemn submission to the counsel and commandments of God. Unlike solemn submission, all attendances to subtle submission just make things complicated until the sacrifice is laid upon the altar.
