Safe Statute
“Now His betrayer had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him and lead Him away safely.”” Mark 14:44 NKJV
Has anyone ever cared to uncover the concept of Judas Iscariot’s recommendation of safe treatment of Jesus Christ? Apparently, only the scribes and Pharisees can frankly answer to his disappointment for their non-compliance. Judas still looks forward to another parable of the sowers in an upcoming homecoming sermon on the mount, after the scribes and Pharisees’ expectation of compliance to the recommendation. Likewise, the world and its system are filled with safe statutes on economics, social ethics, political strategy, and business deals that compromise the counsel of God on holiness and righteousness. These worldly statutes are only capable of offering temporal satisfaction and the feeling of great achievement; they cannot sustain their offers on the day of reckoning with the Lord. For example, by the time Judas Iscariot discovered this reality and opted to query the scribes and Pharisees for non-compliance, all he got was “What is that to us? You see to it!” (Matthew 27:4). From time immemorial, the safe statutes of worldliness, peer pressure, and unequal yokes are full of fake promises, with little or no layer of commitment to compliance. The only safe statutes for life and godliness are the scriptural revelations on sanctification and absolute separation from sin; no one has ever experienced safety by negotiating a kiss with the scribes and Pharisees.
