Wholesome Wrestling
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:11-13 NKJV
Curious about the possible lessons from last Saturday’s knockout of Anthony Joshua by Daniel Dubois, a pre-fight face-off analysis and post-fight review of boxing techniques reveal underestimation on the part of Joshua and unquenchable anger on the part of Daniel. While the former appears unprepared, the latter came to the ring with his full armour ready to slay the reigning king. Likewise, spiritual battles in life require consistent putting on and courageous taking up of the wholesome armour of God against the wiles of the enemies, including the breastplate of righteousness in our daily relationships, the shield of faith against all intimidation, the helmet of salvation in our corrupt environment, the sword of the spirit against all negative pronouncements, and all prayer in the Spirit for spiritual refreshments and rejuvenation. Believers are called out to the boxing ring with the deceiver, thief, and slayer in all of life’s engagements, including parenting, partnership, and professionalism. Only those who underestimate the undying advances of the enemies through each day’s life engagement can get knocked down on the ring reserved for wholesome wrestling.
