Clean Cleave
“Now therefore, O Lord our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the Lord God, You alone.” Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Because you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard.’” II Kings 19:19-20 NKJV
Since the advent of the depravity of sin, the redemption plan of God has been focussed on healing the consequent leaving of human fellowship with God. Even after the final sacrifice for the redemption of man and the receipt of the saving grace by the redeemed is effected, a change from leaving to cleaving hasn’t really experienced the total freedom from distraction. Therefore, prayer and intercession is one of heaven’s provisions for the believers’ experience of a clean cleave. For example, in king Hezekiah’s prayer and intercession to God on behalf of the nation Isreal, he essentially prayed for the promotion of the people’s cleaving unto the Lord. Otherwise, Sennacherib the king of Assyria has perfected his plan of lording over the people of God. It implies that the perfect understanding of the challenges of life against the people of God is the enemies’ obsession at stealing away the people’s cleaving unto the Lord, for worship, obedience, and fellowship. Therefore, effective prayer for deliverance from the shackles of the enemies is never a personal struggle for freedom; it is always focussed on the promotion of a clean cleave unto our jealous Lord.
