Solo Shine
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV
If solo compliments and commendation are warmly welcomed by all, why do we often feel uncomfortable with solo rendering of good initiative, particularly in an hostile environment? Whereas, Jesus teaches His disciples to accept solo shine not on the basis of their feelings; but on the basis of their functions “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works”. When human feeling is fuelled by the surrounding inputs from the broken world, human functions become subjected and manipulated by the prince of this world - Satan. But those who have been redeemed by grace have an inner fuel system that produces only good works, irrespective of the corrupting influences in the environment. After all, the import of God’s grace will continue to be hidden from the broken world, if solo shine is not embraced by those who claim to be the light of the world. Therefore, when God’s grace is fully evident, God’s glory becomes the sufficient motivation for the soul’s commitment to solo shine.
