Strange Services
“Now they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them; and they were amazed. And as they followed they were afraid. Then He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them the things that would happen to Him:...For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.””
Mark 10:32, 45 NKJV

Although public service is expected to be the platform for grooming servants, it is often an avenue for grounding servanthood due to the abuse of power. However, in spite of the power and authority of Jesus, his life and ministry demonstrated the right concept of public service. And while the disciples appeared to be nursing a misconception and a strange feeling about Jesus’ model of service offerings, He clearly prophesied for the third time how the final price of laying down His life will be paid. Unfortunately, many servants in public services have lost the appetite in deriving joy and contentment from the strange experiences of life. And perfect peace is often lost in services at home, fellowship and society due to the misconception in the distinction between sweet services and strange services. Whereas, strange service is merely motivated by the demanding of gains for earthly gratification, the actual sweet service employs the derivation of joy from pains for heavenly glorification.
