Hype, music, fashion, and even entertainment can pull crowds; but most of these crowds are readily dispersed at the end of the season of celebration. In difficult times and seasons of affliction or the challenges of darkness, only courage can sustain a worthwhile confidence. Besides the Lord Jesus Christ, no leader of influence on earth is qualified to secure and sustain the confidence of his fellow human being perpetually. For example, the confidence of the psalmist in the Lord can be seen to earn him the courage to run against a troop of Philistines and leap over a wall in front of the ravaging Saul.
