Spirit Strength
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63 NKJV
One of the amazing feelings about Sunday is its reference as the Sun or Spirit day. Believers who would truly worship God in Spirit and in truth get the opportunity to hear the words of the Lord. Ideally, we are designed to live daily by the words of the Lord (and not merely wait until Sunday!). Unfortunately, the conflicting words from our exposing worldview and influences do readily contend with the words of the Lord in the hearts of believers, leading to our references to sapped strength and carnality. Therefore, when Jesus Christ told His disciples “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing”, He attested to the danger of the fleshy sapped strength and its influences in the lives of believers. Imploded by the heart’s exposure to the influence of political sagacity, material prosperity, academic prowess, financial breakthrough, etc, sapped strength will often lead believers away from the source of Spirit strength. Little wonder, the scriptures later attested to the fact that “From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more (John 6:66)”. Even Judas Iscariot, who was among the 12 disciples that stayed, was later revealed as a betrayal because of his preference for the sapped strength on the enticement for financial breakthrough. Therefore, the secret of every believer’s preference for the spirit strength is the priority of living on the words that Jesus speaks to him in fellowship over the possibility of daily influences by the world.
