Soft Soil
“So Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. And he laid his hands on him and inaugurated him, just as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.” Numbers 27:22-23 NKJV
The transition from Moses to Joshua was smooth and seamless because Joshua has been prepared by the cultivating influence of the 40 years wilderness experiences. Walking past several moments of the Israelites’ murmuring and consequences, the challenges of invasions from the enemies and how Moses responded by receiving guidance and deliverance from the Lord, and numerous manifestations of God’s provision to the needs of the people. And where many of his contemporaries had failed, Joshua had stood firm on the promises of God to get into the land filled with milk and honey. So, when Moses “took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation”, he was already a soft soil for God’s sowing of His heavenly resources and the finishing of the race. Even today, life’s challenges and difficulties in the family, social life, and professional career are minefields for skills, experiences, and resources for managing greater projects with great accomplishments, if the soil (heart) is softened and ready for engagement. God’s projects never lack heavenly resources, but God’s people do need soft soil (heart) to receive and propagate heavenly resources to their generation.
