Partial Portion

““I will teach you about the hand of God; What is with the Almighty I will not conceal. Surely all of you have seen it; Why then do you behave with complete nonsense? “This is the portion of a wicked man with God, And the heritage of oppressors, received from the Almighty:” Job 27:11-13 NKJV

Like someone rightly said “It is only when you understand the transcendence of God that you see how amazing his immanence is”, scriptural evidence presents Job as someone privileged to understand the perfect portion in God. For clarity's sake, the ‘transcendence’ of God means that God exists apart from, and is not subject to the limitations of, the material universe. He is above and beyond, surpassing and excelling, greatly superior to us. On the other hand, the ‘immanence’ of God means that it is possible to experience his immediate friendship. While Job adores the transcendence of God, and he enjoys His immanence, many believers today embrace the partial portion in human intelligence, influence, and ingenuity to their shame. Little wonder the aptness in Job’s stance that My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go; My heart shall not reproach me as long as I live” (Job‬ ‭27‬:‭6‬). Even though the privilege of scriptural hindsight exposes the divine rebuke of the wickedness in the partial portion of Job’s friends, and the divine reward of the righteousness in the perfect portion of Job, we still struggle today to accept that the transcendence and immanence of God invite all to His presence with integrity, intimacy and innocence.
