Winsome Warfare

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of ChristII Corinthians 10:3-5 NKJV

Like the great Welsh preacher, Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones, once said “There is no grosser or greater misrepresentation of the Christian message than that which depicts it as offering a life of ease with no battle and struggle at all…sooner or later every believer discovers that the Christian life is a battleground, not a playground”. To engage in a playground strategy is to play with spiritual warfare, major in physical and diplomatic settlement of disputes, disagreements, and displeasure, and to exploit the protection offered by legal, administrative, and regulatory instruments whenever the diplomatic approaches fail. And while the playground approaches are not totally wasteful, the real battle in the spiritual realms is focused on vacating disobedience to the authority of Christ. That’s why Apostle Paul admonished believers about the indispensability of the battleground approach. Debates, diplomacy, and arguments do not win the battle against agents of darkness, who are irreconcilably engaged to ensure the counsel of God in our homes, institutions, and societies do not stand. Therefore, true believers are employed to engage in a winsome warfare on a daily basis with love, prayer, and spiritual discernment to pull down strongholds, and not by creating footholds.
