Fruitless Fellowship
“Now it was so, after Amaziah came from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the people of Seir, set them up to be his gods, and bowed down before them and burned incense to them. Therefore the anger of the Lord was aroused against Amaziah, and He sent him a prophet who said to him, “Why have you sought the gods of the people, which could not rescue their own people from your hand?”” II Chronicles 25:14-15 NKJV
The fall of king Amaziah after his rise and divine favour shows the evil side of success and achievements. Success and worldly achievements readily attract bad companies than retaining the good ones. For example, while Amaziah’s Dad had a good company in the chief priest Jehoiada, he was properly guided and guarded against evil and unrighteousness. But immediately the chief priest died, the waiting bad companies ceased the occasion to the destruction of his fruitful fellowship with God. Funny enough, king Amariah was prevented from bad company with the army of Israel in order to guarantee success in the battle against the Edomites. Unfortunately, when the promised success came, its accompanying pride promoted his fellowship with the gods of the defeated Edomites. What a foolishness in all forms of fruitless fellowship with success and worldly achievements? Invariably, when the scriptures say the love of money (success and worldly achievements inclusive) is the root of all evil, it just implies that fellowship with the material things of this world is always against a fruitful fellowship with God and His commandments.
