Safe Sentiment

Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers have risen up against me, And oppressors have sought after my life; They have not set God before them. Selah“ Psalms 54:2-3 NKJV

The ziphites were here referred to in David’s prayer as strangers, not because they weren’t part of Israel. They were only considered strangers before the throne of grace: “They have not set God before them. Selah”. And like the ziphites, life’s ambition and the pursuit of relevance have often drawn men into the game of strange sentiments. When we put the greatest emphasis on human efforts and manipulation, even if this initiative includes the unnecessary cutting down of fellow men and the destruction of other people’s lives and ambition, it implies that we are totally ignoring the omnipotence and sovereignty of God. Whereas, the safe sentiment in all of life’s ambitions is the knowing and pursuit of God’s interest. Even when David was in deep troubles, he considered God’s interest in saving the troubled Keilah from the philistines, especially while risking his life; and God delivered him. Any believer who always sets God’s interest as his safe sentiment will never fall as a prey in the hands of strangers to the throne of grace.
