Request Refuge

They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel, But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tested God in the desert. And He gave them their request, But sent leanness into their soul.” Psalms‬ ‭106‬:‭13‬-‭15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Anyone who has ever struggled with the challenges of establishing relationships on the basis of trust and integrity can imagine the heartbeat of God in relationship with His people. The scriptures acknowledge it that when “He saved them from the hand of him who hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. The waters covered their enemies; There was not one of them left. Then they believed His words; They sang His praise” (Psalms‬ ‭106‬:‭10‬-‭12‬). And since the Israelites’ relationship with God was treated on the basis of a request-refuge, we can understand why it was difficult for their belief in God to stand the test of time. Likewise, when we relate with God on the basis of provision for our selfish request, rather than faith in His providence and the fulfillment of His purpose, we are bound to find alternatives to divine counsel in times of needs. That is why carrots from the request refuge of the Deceiver (Lucifer) is readily accepted by believers in replacement of the crown of righteousness from the Lord. Little wonder “They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel, But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tested God in the desert”. But those who truly desire the riches of God’s grace, instead of the leanness of their soul, will always focus on seeking righteousness out of His refuge.
