Wondrous Works
“So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom. Let Your work appear to Your servants, And Your glory to their children. And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalms 90:12, 16-17 NKJV
If life’s engagements and career paths are strictly taken by the visible access to prosperity and popularity, all that is needed in life would be the eyes of wisdom and not the heart of wisdom. Even when most of us believe, like the psalmist, in the heart of wisdom, our actions are sensually dictated by material gains and not the wondrous grace. Whereas, the redeemed of the Lord are primarily delivered from their self-centred engagements, inspired by greed from the devil, into the wondrous works of God. Life’s engagements, besides the wondrous works, are focussed on the beauty of man and the pride of life. And while we get in the way of intervention by the Spirit of the Lord, little wonder our engagements rarely attract the glory of God and the marvellous wonders of God. Therefore, the psalmist’s prayer goes “Let Your work appear to Your servants, And Your glory to their children. And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us”. Anytime the wise works of men do not embrace the wondrous works of God, their life’s engagements simply become wasteful works without the true hearts of wisdom.
