Responsible Reconciliation

“Turn us, O God of our salvation, And cause thine anger toward us to cease. Wilt thou not revive us again: That thy people may rejoice in thee?” Psalm‬ ‭85‬:‭4‬, ‭6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Responsible reconciliation is all about taking responsibility to return back into a fruitful relationship or friendship. Therefore, at the heart of the psalmist’ prayer ‘Turn us, O God of our salvation…and…Wilt thou not revive us again’ is a deep acknowledgment of transgression and the people’s turning away from the presence of the Lord. It is called conviction of sin and repentance from reckless disobedience against the commandments of the Lord. ‘Turn us, O God of our salvation’ acknowledges the futility of all human rehabilitation efforts. No one is capable of saving himself from the captivity of sin and wickedness. We all need the grace of God to truly see how far we have drafted away from God, believe in His redemption plan, and confess our shortcomings. But while the wrath of God warns some rebellious sinners about the ultimate judgment of God, they often fall short of taking the right steps towards responsible reconciliation. Whereas, Jonah responded to the wrath of God in the belly of the fish and took the steps toward a responsible reconciliation into the presence of the Lord. Even today, every responsible reconciliation does lead to salvation, starting with repentance, conversion, and bringing the times of refreshing or rejoicing from the presence of the Lord.
