Heeding Heart
“I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. “But My people would not heed My voice, And Israel would have none of Me.” Psalms 81:10-11 NKJV
Gone are the days when the windows to the hearts are simply conceived as uncontrolled access to the analog devices that were used to communicate worldly influences, seductive attraction, wicked advertisement, and evil vices. Then, believers could readily throw those devices, television sets, pornographic displays, and invitations away. Whereas, today, the world of theatres, entertainment, and fashions are no longer on remote and detachable devices and physical structures. They are rightly part of every human’s daily and undetachable lifestyles and companionship. Little wonder why we now have believers who claim to love the Lord and believe His words go easily influenced by worldly lifestyles and associations? By implication, the love of the world and its affections have displaced the love of the Lord in the heart. Notwithstanding, the scriptural admonition and revelation of the Holy Spirit through the psalmist remain relevant, which is “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it”. Figuratively, since the mouth is a window to the heart, when it is opened wide, it can shut off the distracting attention of all other human senses; and retain the feeding of the heart through the open mouth. And the preoccupation of an open wide mouth and filled with divine inspiration becomes the pouring out of virtues and not vices. Therefore, a heeding heart can only foreclose an erring heart when it is fed daily through an open wide mouth by the Rhema of God’s words and the revelation of His counsels; this is the only way to shut off worldly influences and affection.
