Steady Stand
“So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor. And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you.”” Joshua 10:7-8 NKJV
Inspired (or infuriated) by the Gibeonites’ surrender to the God of the Israelites, the five kings of the Amorites conspired together to fight the Gibeonites; and I am thinking ‘Why fighting the Gibeonites, and not the Israelites?’. Then, I realized, the enemies are usually more infuriated by believers’ steady stand with their God. More importantly, Joshua took up the challenge by demonstrating the secret in believers’ steady stand: “So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor…” apparently, to seek the face of the Lord. And the Lord responded to Joshua’s prayer, “Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you”. Obviously, Joshua’s ascent to the Hill of the Lord was inspiringly steady to the extent that the scriptures reported that “There were more who died from the hailstones [from the Lord] than the children of Israel killed with the sword (verse 11)” and “So the sun stood still, And the moon stopped, Till the people had revenge Upon their enemies (verse 13)”. Therefore, whenever believers surmount courage to stand steady with the Lord to the end of life’s battle, the Lord will stand steady to disgracefully destroy their enemies at the end.
