Authorized Ambition
“So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.””

One of the fond memories of elementary and probably high schoolers is the periodic composition of the common essay on “what is your future career ambition”? And by not necessarily a want of proper guidance, students often articulate career paths that are merely motivated by fantasies until a genuine assistance is discovered for purposeful pursuits. Prior to Saul’s encounter at the outskirts of his journey to Damascus, a clear career as a defender of the Jewish Religion was cut-out and passionately articulated. And by leveraging on the authority of the high priest, Paul appeared to have obtained the necessary and sufficient authority to back his articulated ambition in life. Unfortunately, an encounter with the Lord Jesus at this present duty post revealed that Paul’s articulated ambition had been summarily a persecution against the Lord and His purpose. Likewise, a careful review of the authority behind a carefully articulated ambition of believers in life and ministry might reveals the same burden from the Lord: ‘...why are you persecuting Me?’ However, only those who choose to daily tremble at the revelation of God’s words; and then proclaim “Lord, what do You want me to do?” is guaranteed safety from eternal loss.
