Fake Faith
“And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” And His disciples heard it...So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.”

A focus on figs rather than faith can easily misrepresent the lessons from the experience of Jesus Christ with the fig tree having leaves. Considering the response of Christ to His disciples, it is obvious that the story addresses the subject of fake faith rather than the season with fake figs. Although the scriptures clearly define faith as the substance of things hoped for or the evidence of things not seen, our focus on ‘leafy figs’ in life (like the appearances of a marital, career, or ministerial prospects) often removes believers’ faith and absolute confidence in God. Whereas, faith in God is singled on the promises of God on situations and circumstances in our lives; and not necessarily the timely appearance or otherwise of any prospect. God’s economy is not dependent on the gross domestic product, fiscal policies, and the success rates of appearing prospects in life. Once God said it and we believe it, it is settled and accomplished no matter how long the delay may appear.
