Abiding Affection

“And Jesus answered and said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭13:2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ https://www.bible.com/114/mrk.13.2.nkjv
Some of the indices for the pursuit of excellence in life include access to wealth, fame, and pleasure. Therefore, life’s investment of time, talent and treasure are thrown down in exchange for future lifting up. And unfortunately, some selfish and wicked people are even careless about wasting other people’s lives for their own personal gains. Whereas, the reality still remains the unendurable lifespan of these earthly gains, needless to mention the transient lifespan of man. When one of the disciples of Jesus got distracted by the glamour of the temple complex, Jesus was prompt to check the danger in the ensuing misplacement in affection. “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down”. The problem here is not the attraction of the eyes to beauty and magnificence; the problem is the affection of the heart to the things of this world, that will soon pass away. The scriptures admonished the redeemed and those who have risen with Christ to seek those things which are above. Truthfully, it is not possible for anyone to build affection for the things of this world and buy appreciation for the pursuit of the kingdom of God and its righteousness.
