Careful Coinage
“And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’ Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.””
Luke 15:9-10 NKJV

Everyone understands or appreciates the ease of working and living in a system, institution and society that works. When opportunities, privileges and great values in life are lost, it is often easier to shift blames than taking responsibility. The parable of the lost coin teaches the need for a sense of responsibility, against the ease of shifting responsibility. In a process of building a system that is secure and prevent the loss of personal property, there is need for taking responsibility for the promotion of personal safety and careful living. When Jesus emphasized the careful coinage of the woman with the words “for I have found the piece which I lost!”, it underscores the motivation behind her determination to disrupt her personal lifestyle in order to discover a new taste of living. Unfortunately, many with a blame game mentality will prefer the disruption of other people’s lifestyle in order to enjoy a new taste of living. Likewise, Jesus appears to generally emphasize that “If everyone can personally take care of his loss of the presence of God, the joy of the great achievement will overlook what is lost to other people’s negligence”. For every loss to a dysfunctional system of life, there is always a blessing with a careful coinage of the privilege of personal repentance and soul-searching.
