Lonely Lane
“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me...But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God.””
Luke 9:23, 27 NKJV

Literally, seeing the kingdom of God before tasting death is desirable; but realistically, there is a penalty of suffering for the flesh before such a glorious revelation can be accessed. For example, the scriptural account of martyrdom for Stephen, Paul, John the Beloved and many disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ provides the revelation of the kingdom of God at the height of painful suffering and intense persecution. In principle, the lovely lane in this world would embrace everything glamorous and without a call for cross bearing. Jesus had just revealed His true path of suffering, shame and death on the cross unto the disciples before calling for volunteers on the lonely lane. It is always desirable for anyone to follow Jesus to the kingdom of God for the crown. But denying and depriving self of the pleasure of this world and embracing the cross of shame, suffering and possibly death is simply a call to a lonely lane. However, a call from a lovely Lord unto a lonely lane is always full of lively light that cannot be dimmed by the lustful love of this sinful world.
